چکیده

-The growth and metastatic spread of human tumours in immuno suppressed hamsters is described. A variety of human tumours were transplanted to the flank or the cheek pouch of the hamsters. Immunosuppression was obtained by combined thymectomy and ATS treatment. In the period up to 4 months after implantation, metastases to the lungs were observed with carcinomata of breast, colon, larynx and kidney; also melanoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, fibrosarcoma and teratoma of testis. Fourteen of 20 different tumours implanted metastasized to the lungs. Only 2 tumours, a hypernephroma and a melanoma, became established at the site of implantation; the remainder regressed even though the tumour was proliferating in the lungs.

Carbon Sequestration by Fruit Trees - Chinese Apple Orchards as an Example

Apple production systems are an important component in the Chinese agricultural sector with 1.99 million ha plantation. The orchards in China could play an important role in the carbon (C) cycle of terrestrial ecosystems and contribute to C sequestration. The carbon sequestration capability in apple orchards was analyzed through identifying a set of potential assessment factors and their weight...

Effects of Sulfur Application on Soil pH and Uptake of Phosphorus, Iron and Zinc in Apple Trees

The main reasons for the fixation of some elements and consequently nutrient deficiencies, especially phosphorus, iron and zinc, are high levels of calcium (calcareous soils) and soil pH. Two sulfur fertilizers (sulfur alone and sulfur + organic material + Thiobacillus spp.) with two rates (2 and 4 kg sulfur/tree) were used to decrease soil pH and availability of P, Fe and Zn in apple trees dur...

Evaluation of Pest Management Tactics for Organic Apple Production

In New York State, a large number of both native and introduced insect and mite species attack apples grown in commercial apple orchards. Control of this pest complex is particularly challenging, because unlike the more arid apple production regions on the West Coast, apple orchards in N.Y. are commonly in close proximity to semi-wooded areas having an abundance of wild apple and hawthorn speci...

Population Dynamics and Flight Phenology Model of Codling Moth Differ between Commercial and Abandoned Apple Orchard Ecosystems

Apple orchard management practices may affect development and phenology of arthropod pests, such as the codling moth (CM), Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), which is a serious internal fruit-feeding pest of apples worldwide. Estimating population dynamics and accurately predicting the timing of CM development and phenology events (for instance, adult flight, and egg-hatch) allows...
